Preparation for this ministry involves; prayer, seeking Christ in everyone and adherence to our Mission Statement:

Our Parish exists to make spirit-filled missionary disciples of Jesus Christ for the glory of God the Father.

The role of usher has had a long history in the Catholic Church. Referred to as “porters” in the Third Century, ushers used to guard the church doors against intruders. Today, ushers serve the opposite function, being the first to welcome visitors to Mass. At St Patrick, our ushers actively welcome and care for each member of the community with patience, reverence, sensitivity and compassion, embracing the core value of family.

Romans 15:7

“Welcome one another, then, as Christ welcomed you, for the glory of God.”

Diocese of Lansing

Hospitality is not an additional courtesy; it is a central component of the Christian message, attitude, and behavior; and therefore is integral to the liturgical celebration of the Christian faithful. Ushers and Ministers of Hospitality have the unique privilege and the responsibility to create this cordial and welcoming environment for the parish community.
