Fortified by spiritual Graces
Through the Sacrament of Confirmation, the faithful are fortified by spiritual Graces of the Holy Spirit. They are better prepared for their journey of faith and called upon more fully to spread and defend the Faith by word and deed.
The eligibility year to prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation is eighth grade. The preparation for the Sacrament is done with the family. If an eighth grader decides to wait until high school to begin the Sacramental prep, the 8th grade class curriculum of discipleship will still be relevant for all of the participants.
In addition to being enrolled in a Catholic school or in the parish Faith Formation program, the preparation includes an informational meeting for parents and youth, a 2-day retreat with adult and high school youth leaders, and a Confirmation interview with the DRE or one of our catechists.
The families are presented with a packet of material at the initial meeting. The packet contains a listing of important dates along with worksheets that need to be completed. The candidates are asked to complete a service project—one for the parish or the larger community. An essay is completed for the service project in order to help the candidates to process their service in light of Scripture and their Christian commitment. In addition to the service project, the Confirmation candidates are asked to complete a Saint Report, and interview their sponsor. After a final discernment, the Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated in May with all those who have completed the above process.
