sacristans

“He sent out Peter and John, instructing them, ‘Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.’” Luke 22:8

The ministry of Sacristan is open to men and women who are fully initiated into the Catholic Church, have a demonstrated ability to be attentive to detail and have a working knowledge and appreciation for the Order of the Mass. Having a privileged role of preparing for the celebration of Mass at St Patrick, our Sacristans, through their reverence and devotion, witness to Christ’s Real Presence in the Eucharist. Assumed in this ministry is a commitment to prayer and ongoing training and formation.

General Instruction of the Roman Missal 105 and 110

“A liturgical function is also exercised by the sacristan, who diligently arranges the liturgical books, the vestments, and other things that are necessary for the celebration of Mass. There should be harmony and diligence among all those involved in the effective preparation of each liturgical celebration in accordance with the Missal and other liturgical books, both as regards the rites and as regards the pastoral and musical aspects. However, the Priest who presides at the celebration always retains the right of arranging those things that pertain to him.”
