Two St Pat’s Ordinations This Weekend (Deacons Leon and Peter)

As noted before, this Saturday May 17th at 10:30am at St Thomas Aquinas in East Lansing is the Ordination to the Diaconate Mass at which St Pat’s will have two deacons ordained to the diaconate: Leon Demers and Peter Randolph. Leon will be a permanent deacon and you’ll see him at the Masses this weekend. Peter is a seminarian who will be a deacon with us for a year, like Deacon Josh Luttig was, before he’s ordained a priest in June 2026. Please pray for them and congratulate them when you see them.

New Seminarian from St Pat’s

Recently I received the great news that parishioner Joseph Streight has been accepted as a seminarian for the Diocese of Lansing! This means he will be joining parishioner Trevor Kunkle at Sacred Heart Major Seminary. You’ll probably see Joseph around here during the summer. Here is a little note from him:

My name is Joseph Streight and I will be entering Sacred Heart Major Seminary for the Propaedeutic I year this August. I graduated from Hartland High School in 2021 and just graduated a few weeks ago from the University of Michigan with a degree in naval architecture and marine engineering. While at college, I was very involved with the club Michigan Catholics where I served as the Peer Minister for Liturgy and Prayer. I enjoy reading, writing, and going for walks, especially in cemeteries where I can pray for the dead.

I began discerning my vocation seriously while at college. I had the desire to go to the seminary a year and a half ago but felt that God was calling me to finish my degree first. In the remaining time, I spent a summer in Miami working for a cruise line. It was in Miami that I felt God’s definitive “yes” telling me to apply to the seminary.  I received my acceptance shortly after I graduated. I am so excited for this next step in my discernment and the fruits that being at the seminary will bring. Please keep me in your prayers and I will be praying for all of you. God Bless!

Music for Sunday 11:30am Mass

With Martin leaving, I happy to share this update from Steve Royal, Director of Music:

We will certainly miss Martin Doman (lead singer and worship leader for the 11:30 Mass) as he takes a new position, near to his extended family, as the Campus Minister for the Donahue Academy and Youth Minister for the parish of Ave Maria, Florida. However, we will continue to have the same type of praise and worship music at the 11:30 Mass, as led by leadership from within the team. Michael Bochenek will be the lead worship leader, and he will work collaboratively with Grace (Doman) Orsatti and the rest of the team. Michael (pianist) will be organizing the music, rehearsals, and leading the musicians while Grace (guitarist) will assist with prophetic leadership at certain times during the Mass. Michael and Grace led youth worship together before arriving at St. Patrick and mentored under Martin for many years, both before and after joining St. Patrick six years ago. We support the entire 11:30 team as it collaborates and moves forward to lead us in new worship and prayer. (More leadership developments in St. Patrick music ministry leadership will be described in future articles.)

Stephen Royal,
Director of Music

Your servant in the Lord,
Fr. Mathias
