Preaching Series #1: Why Small Groups?
This weekend we begin preaching a preaching series on why being a part of a committed small discipleship group is a game-changer in helping people to not just barely survive in their faith, but to thrive in it.
St Patrick Brotherhood: New Men’s Ministry Tuesday Nights
This weekend we are highlighting our revamped men’s ministry called the Brotherhood of St Patrick, which starts with a September 16th tailgate launch event.
What is the Brotherhood of St Patrick’s? “We are a band of brothers walking together towards the Lord. It’s not complicated; it’s not a new idea; it simply is what men have done since Jesus called those first twelve men to follow Him. We were never meant to try to follow Jesus alone. Come and discover what the life of faith is like when it is walked side-by-side with brothers.”
We have three pillars on which our brotherhood is built:
1. Behold: Jesus said that without Him, we can do nothing. This means that we need to look to Him as the source of our strength, and come to know Him as an intimate brother and friend. To do this, we spend time beholding Him in Word and in Sacrament.
2. Become: The goal of the Christian life is to be conformed to Christ. To look like Jesus! This happens through intentional brotherhood, pursuing Christ together as men, so that we can become the men we are meant to be.
3. Bestow: Each of us has been given a vocation and a mission: to bear abundant fruit for the Kingdom; to give our lives so that others may have life; to bestow upon our sons and daughters their eternal inheritance.
Parish Raffle Tickets and our Parish Festival “Oktoberfest”
Save the date for our St Patrick’s Oktoberfest, on Sunday, October 5th (2pm-6pm) at our parish school across town.
Thank you to everyone who has turned in their tickets already this year. Remember every dollar (after expenses) we raise in our Parish comes back to the parish. Thanks ahead of time for selling and/or buying and turning in the ticket stubs at the barrels at the Church entrances!
Anointing of the Sick Mass (Healing Mass): Thursday, September 25, 10:30am in the Church
While Fr Joshua and I anoint people upon request throughout the year, it’s also fitting to host a special Mass periodically during which we offer the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick to those who are prepared and eligible to receive it. This sacrament is powerful in mediating the presence of Christ who brings peace and heals.
Just a reminder, the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick can be given to any baptized Catholic who is one or more of the following:
a. seriously ill (you could die from the illness you have) or
b. about to undergo serious or risky surgery,
c. an elderly person who has become notably weakened through age, or
d. a seriously ill child who is the age of reason, or
e. actively dying
Your servant in the Lord,
Fr. Mathias
