Bishop’s Request: Fridays for Peace in the Holy Land: Prayer, Fasting and Almsgiving in June

In response to the words of Pope Leo XIV, Bishop Boyea is asking for the entire Diocese to pray, fast and give almsgiving for peace in the Holy Land. Here is an excerpt of his letter:

“…Hence, I encourage each of us to of er prayers, fasting, and almsgiving each Friday in June, the Month of the Sacred Heart, for peace in the Holy Land. This includes Friday, June 13, the feast of Saint Anthony of Padua, patron of the Holy Land. Upon that day, some may wish to bring lilies, as is customary upon Saint Anthony’s feast, to a local shrine or altar dedicated to Saint Anthony. Amongst other things, the lily signifies and honors Our Lady, Queen of Peace, and invokes her maternal intercession. For almsgiving, I recommend donating to the Catholic Near East Welfare Association, the of icial papal agency dedicated to pastoral and humanitarian support in the Middle East, including the Holy Land. Link: https://cnewa.org/ Lord Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace, have mercy on us. Our Lady, Queen of Peace, pray for us. Saint Anthony of Padua, pray for us.”

Come Holy Spirit and bring peace to the Holy Land.

Parish Council Member Nominations Fall 2025

As many of you know, our parish council is a consultative body of parishioners that provides critical input and feedback both on how we are fulfilling our mission and on other major projects and initiatives for our parish. In addition to the bi-monthly meetings each council member seeks input from the parish and brings that feedback to everyone on the council. Essentially, the parish council assists me in making good decisions for the good of the parish. The faithful input of the council is one of the key ways that I get the pulse of how things are going in the parish vis-a-vis our mission and helps shape direction to take the parish. Usually, parishioners are pretty good at giving input to me or my staff directly, but if you ever want to give input directly to the council chair, remember that the chair’s email is in the bulletin.

Because we have two council members who finished their terms in June, we are in need of two more parishioners willing to serve on the parish council for a three-year term. If you’re personally interested in serving on parish council, please fill out and submit the Parish Council Nomination Form found here. These nomination forms, which will also be available in the front office, need to be submitted to me by email or dropped off at office by August 8, 2025. After this deadline, I will, with the help of my leadership team, prayerfully select from the nominations those to serve these terms.

Sign-Ups For 40 Hours Intercession at St Pat’s Almost Filled

Good news: We almost have all of the eighty slots filled with volunteers to ensure two people are adoring Jesus at a time. As of writing this we only have five slots left. Remember, our Adoration for the Deanery begins on Wednesday June 11 at 8am (and ending on June 13 at 12am). Please click here to sign up.

All of this is being done as part of the Eucharistic Journey for the Jubilee Year (end of Eucharistic Revival) Just a reminder of the Diocesan context from last week’s email/bulletin:

Starting at Pentecost, June 8, and continuing to the Feast of Corpus Christi on June 21st, the whole Diocese will begin an intercessory campaign—a 40 Hours Campaign. Each parish of the Diocese of Lansing, will in turn host Eucharistic Adoration for 40 hours, covering our parishes and our communities in continuous prayer and intercession for the full conversion of all the souls within our boundaries and for the intention of bringing the Gospel of hope to the world...

…Then, on June 21, we will celebrate a Diocesan-wide Mass at Jackson Field, home of the Lansing Lugnuts. After Mass, we will process with the Eucharist through the heart of Lansing to the Cathedral, culminating in a Corpus Christi celebration on the Capitol Lawn with food and fellowship. My prayer is that your love of our Lord is renewed in your time spent in Adoration with him as we intercede for the conversion of souls.”

For more information on the procession, Mass and forty hours go to www.EucharisticJourney.org

Your servant in the Lord,
Fr. Mathias
